Tank Driving Experiences - A great gift idea!

At some time, in the minds of most boys, is the dream of one day driving an armoured tank, with powerful guns at the ready. For many years, other than those who grew up and joined the armed forces, this remained a dream. Now you can bring those early dreams about tanks to fruition at a day's tank driving experience.

Tank experience days can be a treat for yourself or a gift bought for someone else. Tank driving can be undertaken at Leicester, and some experiences are available at a number of other venues in the UK. Tank experiences normally run from April to October on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. You purchase a voucher for the experience and then you or the person for whom you buy the experience can choose the date and time that is suitable for them.

You don't need a driving licence to be able to go for a tank driving experience, but you do have to be aged 16 or over. When you arrive for your tank driving experience you will be given a safety briefing by the tank driving instructor. You will then receive some tutoring on the tank and on how to use the controls. You will start driving with the hatches open so that the instructor can guide you and later so that you can see where you are steering the machine.

In order to gain some confidence you will start by piloting the tank on flat ground before you can drive the tank over a challenging World War 2 bombing range, and then repeat it under battlefield conditions with the hatches battened down. You can expect the tank driving experience to last around three quarters of an hour. The tank driving experience is one that you will remember for a very long time to come.
